From 9-11 October 2020, the Budapest sausage festival will be held in the Hungarian Railway History Park-this time in a different way. The Oldtimer Show +Sausage Fair has been named, as our 2020 combined festivals. Gastro streets and huge sausage fairs, oldtimer vehicles and family activities. We are waiting our foreign guests with Nostalgia music and railway programs.
For the seventh time, the largest gastro-festival taking place at the Hungarian capital, the Pork-Slaughtering Sausage Festival. This year we will be held together with our international Oldtimer Show exhibition. The Pork-slaughtering Sausage Festival brings the atmosphere and gastronomy of rural Hungary to Budapest. On the second weekend of October, the 10 hectares of Budapest Railway History Park and the adjacent Water Tower Park will be fully furnished with attractions. There’s free passage between the two parks.
The Water Tower Park is named after Europe’s largest brick-built water tower. The 140-year-old Békéscsaba Country House will be located near entrance 3, fully furnished with antiques. Here you can taste the world-famous Csabai Sausage. Next to the country house there will be an interactive exhibition of artisan children’s employing and petting zoos, as well as an interactive exhibition with museal farming equipment, where visitors can crumble corn or try the old grinder, pumpkin cleaning, etc… Children can feed pets with minced crops from their hands. In the Water Tower Park there will be an interactive oldtimer tractor and stable motor exhibition. Machines older than 100 years will be constantly started by old machinists. There will be a traditionalist military camp in the grassy area, where there will be an old weapons exhibition and tactical demonstrations on all three exhibition days. In the grassy area there will be also oldtimer trucks and buses. You can also get on the buses, a conductor will punch a ticket at the entrance.
In the great Park there will be the attractions of gastronomy! At the asphalted main street (Thick sausage Street) will be the wooden houses with the sausage selection. Here you can choose from 200 types of traditional rural type sausages. Besides sausages, there will be hurka sausages (special Hungarian sausage), bacon and all kinds of pork chops. There’ll be freshly baked cracks on the spot. On the “Thick Sausage” street, follows the “Gastro” street, where you can buy homemade cheeses, spices, jam, honey, bugle cakes and all kinds of handmade traditional dishes. At entrance 1, on the cobbled “Craft” street, representatives of old crafts sell their wares. Next to the platforms will be “Fairground”.
At the large park is built the ancient locomotive circular heating house. The halls of the Orient and the West will be furnished with beautiful oldtimer cars and motorbikes. This weekend there will also be the Oldtimer Show in The Railway History Park, the largest oldtimer exhibition in Central and Eastern Europe. Larger cars will be on display outside the circular fuel house: USA Oldtimer Car Exhibition.
The area around the Ornamental Fountain is definitely worth visiting for gastronomic lovers! In the grassy arbor there will be a large open-air restaurant where you can eat fried sausages, fried hurka sausages and all kinds of pork-toed dishes freshly baked. At the curve of the ornamental fountain area you can buy pálinka (traditional rural brandy), wine and homemade beer in the wooden houses. The Sápi fruit wine stand will also be here. The tradition at our festival is that anyone who comes in old-age clothes gets a fruit wine tasting as a gift. Take part in this nostalgia game! Come to the festival in contemporary clothes. There will also be built a large restaurant in The Water Tower Park, where you can also eat freshly baked pork chops!
All interactive programs of the Railway History Park will be available at our festival: hand cars, horse railway, rail car, locomotive rotator and garden railway on a 800m long track. On the railway tracks around the 1-gauge rotor, you can see a fantastic steam locomotive exhibition! Around the double rotary engine will be wagon exhibition. For the weekend of the festival, we also heat up a real steam locomotive, which can be tried by the visitors!
The festival will feature many free games for the children: archery, airsoft shooting, air slide, bungee, face painting, playground, petting zoo, etc…
The festival is also accessible by car, public transport and bicycle. For motorcycles and bicycles, a separate parking space will be created in the parking lot P1. Parking and toilet use are free of charge.
